				| What tool do I need to develop in ASP.NET? Do I need Visual Studio.NET to create ASP.Net applications?
Are there any other ASP.NET editors apart from Visual Studio.NET?

				| Welcome Koko
You can develop ASP.NET applications with a plain text editor like Notepad for example.

You can use Web Matrix which is a free ASP.NET development tool and it is available from ASP.NET official website.

Finally you can use Visual Studio.NET, which is the best choice for me. Although a little price it is worth every penny you pay for it.

 Cheers,

				| I highly recommend Web Matrix!
I was using this whilst studying, as I could not afford VS.Net.

I have to say that for a free tool, Web Matrix is amazing.
Its certainly sufficient for the beginner to intermediate developer.

Web Matrix is good, I agree, however Microsoft have recently released their new version of Visual Studio (VS.NET 2005) and one of the editions is free - Visual Studio 2005 Express Edition. You can't beat that

				| What exactly is the express edition lacking? If it's free, Im assuming there are many features that aren't included?

Here is a very nice comparison table for the different MS Visual Studio editions, straight from the source

				| Thanks Don Nice list there.

Its a little confusing how they come out with so many different versions.
They are now planning to do the exact same thing with Windows Vista!
